Frequently Asked Questions

PRE PLANNING SERVICES

  • We begin with an in-depth conversation to understand your unique situation — the legal documents you have in place, the key decisions your personal representatives will need to make, the resources available to them, and any other important considerations. From there, I draft your personalized planning documents, working closely with you to ensure every detail is accurate and that your intentions are clearly represented.

Once the draft is complete, we review it together before conducting a plan walkthrough with the representatives named in your plan. This session is designed to familiarize them with the plan, build their confidence, and give them the opportunity to ask questions. Any final refinements are made based on that walkthrough, and you'll receive copies of your completed plan in both paper and electronic form.

Our relationship doesn't end there. On an ongoing basis — annually or whenever your situation changes — we can update your plan and conduct fresh walkthroughs to ensure your personal representatives remain comfortable with their role and fully prepared to carry it out.

  • The primary deliverable is a comprehensive, personalized plan document that guides your personal representatives through the key decisions and actions required to execute your estate — working in seamless alignment with the legal documents prepared by your attorney, such as your will, trust, and any other formal instruments.

Where your situation calls for it, I will also create supplemental documents that address specific decisions or actions unique to your circumstances. These are designed to integrate naturally with the main plan, giving your representatives everything they need in one cohesive, easy-to-follow resource.

Finally, we will meet with your personal representatives for a plan walkthrough — a dedicated session to ensure they are fully familiar with the plan, confident in their role, and given the opportunity to raise any questions or concerns. Any adjustments identified during that session will be incorporated into the final plan before it is delivered to you.

  • Legal documents like a will or trust are essential — but they are written in legal language, and they are not designed to provide the practical, step-by-step guidance your personal representatives will need when the time comes to act on them. Navigating those documents under the weight of grief and time pressure can be overwhelming, even for the most organized and capable people.

That's where my work comes in. I am not an attorney, and the plan I create is not a legal document — it is an action plan. It translates and connects the key elements of your existing legal documents into clear, practical guidance that empowers your personal representatives to move forward with calm, clarity, and confidence. Think of your legal documents as the foundation, and the plan I create as the roadmap that brings everything together in a way that is easy to understand and act upon.

  • Crisis management is a professional discipline used across both the public and private sectors to help organizations navigate serious, high-stakes disruptions — from natural disasters like hurricanes and floods to human-caused events such as cyberattacks and civil unrest. The methodologies used by crisis management professionals have been developed, tested, and refined over decades, with one central goal: to help people make sound decisions, take the right actions, and maintain clarity under extraordinary pressure.

When a loved one passes away, the people responsible for settling the estate face many of the same challenges. There are urgent decisions to be made, complex processes to navigate, and an enormous amount of information to manage — all while grieving. The parallels are striking, and the same structured, systematic approach that helps organizations survive disruption translates powerfully to helping personal representatives navigate one of the most difficult responsibilities they will ever be asked to fulfill.

By applying this proven methodology to end-of-life planning, I bring a level of rigor, organization, and clarity to the process that simply isn't available anywhere else — giving your loved ones a genuine advantage when they need it most.

  • Your legal documents represent an important and necessary investment — and the crisis plan I create is designed to protect that investment by ensuring your intentions can actually be carried out.

Here's the reality: a will or trust establishes what you want to happen, but it doesn't tell anyone how to make it happen. The practical decisions that follow a loss — arrangements for body disposition and funeral planning, the sale or transfer of a home and its contents, the care of dependents or pets, the management of financial accounts and ongoing obligations, and countless other time-sensitive tasks — are not addressed in legal documents. Yet these are exactly the decisions your personal representatives will face, often within hours or days, while grieving.

The crisis plan bridges that gap. It provides clear decision support, identifies the right resources, and lays out specific actions in a logical sequence — so your representatives aren't left piecing things together on their own. Think of your legal documents as defining your wishes, and the crisis plan as the practical guide that ensures those wishes are honored fully and efficiently. Together, they form a complete plan — one that gives both you and your loved ones genuine peace of mind.

  • The investment for your plan is based on the complexity of your situation — including the scope of your legal documents, the number of personal representatives involved, and the specific wishes and circumstances unique to you. Because no two plans are alike, I don't offer one-size-fits-all pricing.

After our initial conversation, I will provide a detailed proposal outlining the scope of work and the hours required to gather your information, develop your plan, and conduct the plan walkthrough. That way, you'll have a clear and transparent picture of what to expect before any commitment is made.

  • Absolutely. The size of an estate has very little to do with the complexity of what your personal representatives will face. Regardless of what you leave behind, there are decisions and actions that must be taken — arrangements for body disposition and funeral planning, the gifting, sale, or donation of personal possessions, the closing of accounts, and many other tasks that fall to the people you've trusted with this responsibility.

What makes those responsibilities challenging isn't the dollar value of an estate — it's the weight of making important decisions while grieving someone they love. A clear, well-organized plan gives your personal representatives the same gift regardless of the size of your estate: the ability to honor your wishes and carry out their responsibilities with calm, clarity, and confidence.

Working with me isn't about the size of what you leave behind. It's about the people you're leaving it to — and making sure they are never left wondering what you would have wanted.

AFTER LOSS SUPPORT SERVICES

  • Yes — and this is one of the most important situations where having experienced support can make a real difference.

When someone passes without leaving a plan, the people responsible for settling the estate are often left with an overwhelming number of decisions to make, tasks to manage, and questions to answer — all without a roadmap. That weight can feel impossible to carry, especially in the midst of grief.

I can help. I will work with you to identify and work through the decisions and actions that need to be taken, in a logical order that reduces overwhelm and brings structure to an otherwise chaotic situation. When unforeseen complications arise — and they often do — I will help you navigate them calmly and systematically. Through my professional network, I can also connect you with reputable service providers across the range of needs that typically emerge during this process, so you're never left searching for help on your own.

You don't have to figure this out alone. I'll serve as your guide and project manager every step of the way — bringing the same clarity and structure to your situation that a plan would have provided, even when one wasn't left behind.

  • Every situation is unique, and the support you need will depend on the complexity of what needs to be addressed and the level of involvement that is most helpful to you. There is no standard package — my goal is to provide exactly the right level of support for your specific circumstances, whether that means guiding you through a few key decisions or serving as your hands-on project manager throughout the entire process.

We'll begin with a conversation to understand your situation and determine the scope of what needs to be done. From there, I'll provide a clear estimate of the time involved so you have full transparency before any commitment is made.

PROFESSIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

  • End-of-life and after-loss touches virtually every professional who works with individuals and families — attorneys, financial advisors, funeral directors, real estate professionals, trust officers, and many others. And yet, despite the best work of every professional involved, there is often a significant gap between the legal and financial framework that has been put in place and the practical execution of it when the time comes.

That's the gap I fill — and filling it benefits everyone, including you.

When your clients have a well-structured transition plan in place, their personal representatives arrive at your door informed, organized, and prepared. They understand the scope of what needs to be done, they have the documentation they need, and they are ready to engage your services efficiently and effectively. That means smoother interactions, fewer delays, better outcomes, and clients who are better served at every step of the process.

A partnership with Lighthouse Legacy Solutions is an opportunity to offer your clients something genuinely valuable that sits outside your scope of practice — while strengthening the quality and continuity of the overall service experience you provide. Together, we can ensure that the plans your clients have worked hard to put in place are carried out with the clarity and precision they deserve.
